| 1) Establish an active connection with your ISP (you
MUST be online before beginning the publish process)
2) Open the web you wish to publish
with FrontPage (on your local machine)
3) Select File | Publish FrontPage Webs.
A dialogue box will appear.
4) If this is the first time publishing
to this site, click "More Webs", then enter your IP address or domain
name in the text field. Anything following the domain name or IP address
will cause the files to be published to a sub-web (or child web).
5) Once the correct name is displayed
for your location, click Ok
6) You will be prompted for your userid
and FrontPage password if you have not yet been connected to the server
during this FrontPage session.During the Publish process, you will
notice in the left hand corner of your FrontPage Explorer the pages
listing, copying and then the web updating on the server. If your web
is large and there is a great deal of traffic on theInternet, you
may be timing out before the web is completely copied. If the above
does not work for you, you can always open the web remotely (via FP
Explorer) and Import the pages from the FP Explorer (File ...Import
...). Try to import one page at first to see if you can get it through
cleanly. If that works, you can try importing several at a time until
your site is copied.
CGI:
Although FrontPage WebBot components
cover much of the interactive programming features that users typically
wish to add to webs, there are many cases where custom CGI scripts
continue to be useful. For example, a company might wish to program
a CGI script that allows an end-user to access corporate database
information via the web.
PRECAUTIONS
There are some precautions which need
to be taken to protect the FrontPage extensions on your site:
Do NOT use regular FTP (such as WS_FTP)
to upload files to the server when FrontPage extensions are installed.
This may corrupt the extensions, requiring that all files be removed
to reload the extensions.
NOTE: The one exception
to this is when loading custom scripts to the cgi-local directory
on your site.
Using WS_FTP, go DIRECTLY to the cgi-local
directory, transfer the file in ASCII, then right click on the ftp
window, select FTP commands, SITE. This will properly upload and set
permissions for the script.
